Cloud, procurement, substantial savings & access to modern innovations
Over 80% schools in UK are using MIS and finance software based on non-cloud platform, which belongs to the previous decades. Schools are not only missing opportunities to save substantial cost through a lean cloud platform but also putting up with outdated services that fail to deliver to their key stakeholders. Non-cloud software fails to keep up with modern innovations, and fails to provide optimal conditions for teachers. We believe that the solution lies in the markets sudden increase in appetite to reach out to a cloud based MIS and finance software. A competitive procurement process for LAs can be extremely advantageous in this, maintaining present LA support units will continue to play a pivotal role. Cambridgeshire is the first local authority to take a bold decision and cancel outdated contracts to conduct an open procurement process.

The purpose of this LGfL organised forum is to address this problem. We will look at where solutions to this problem been found, how schools have successfully migrated systems and just how great the benefits of such a move have been. We will discuss the benefits of effective procurement, and how with a little engagement with the market, a whole suite of benefits can be realised. Schools can free up resources, enabling investment or lightening current financial pressures; they can save the time of teachers, enabling more time with students or reducing the work pressure they face; and they can improve parent-teacher communication.
Effective procurement and the achievement of best value is one of the prime financial management responsibilities of any public manager – for which they are accountable to the public. Without effective buying processes, public managers in LA’s and schools cannot be viewed as properly discharging their responsibilities.
At this LGfL-organised Forum, LA representatives will share recent case studies on best-value MIS; and senior procurement professionals will also remind colleagues of relevant procurement regulations and the significance of the December DfE circular.
